Ben R. Butler, Founder & Managing Principal Ben Butler has over 23 years combined commercial real estate experience in office, warehouse, retail and multifamily properties and currently serves as Founder and Managing Principal of Public Properties LLC, formerly Urban Realty Group, established in 1991. Since 1995, Mr. Butler has provided lease transaction and real estate advisory services to federal government agencies, government contractors, and property owners with government leases. Mr. Butler is retained by property owners to acquire, reposition, and/or manage a single government lease or a portfolio of government leases. Federal government leasing assignments have included properties owned or managed by firms such as Hines G.S. Properties, PS Business Parks, SAS Corp., Monument Realty, Prudential Real Estate Investors, The Goldstar Group, Transwestern Investment Company, LLC, Jones Lang LaSalle, Morgan Stanley US Real Estate Investing, and the Matan Companies. From 1995 to 1997, Mr. Butler served as in-house consultant to the General Services Administration (GSA), Public Building Service, National Capital Region on over 1,000,000 square feet of lease related transactions for federal agency clients such as the Federal Communications Commission, U.S, Department of Education, U.S Customs Service, U.S. Department of Interior, and U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. His primary responsibility was to manage complex lease transactions including lease acquisitions/dispositions, early renewals, lease buyouts, agency consolidations, lease holdover negotiations, and lease administration reconciliation. From 1999 to 2000, Mr. Butler served as Senior Vice President/Director of Public Real Estate at Trammell Crow Company. He also held positions with First Newport Realty of Dallas, TX (1985 – 1988) and Smithy Braedon Company of Washington, DC (1988-1991), specializing in third party representation of retail tenants and properties. In addition to responsibilities at Public Properties LLC, Mr. Butler serves as Vice President of Urban Properties, Inc. Urban Properties is involved in the ownership and management of HUD insured multi-family housing. Mr. Butler received a Master of Science - Real Estate (1996) from The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science - General Business Administration (1985) from Louisiana State University.
